Leela in Lockdown by Sally-Shakti Willow
Leela is a Sanskrit word for the Divine Play of the Universe, and it in the name of the spiritual community Sally-Shakti Willow was living in the first spring of the coronavirus pandemic. Within the constraints of lockdown, Willow has funnelled internet doom scrolling into eclectic source material for this collection of poetic play. Juxtaposing her constraint based mesostics with densely scribbled notebook pages, Leela in Lockdown is a comforting expression of our whirlwind covid reality.
Sally-Shakti Willow’s poetry is a practice of ritual re-embodiment and co-creativity. She has a PhD in Utopian Poetics and recently co-edited the anthology Writing Utopia 2020 (Hesterglock Press). She’s currently living in community in Dorset and finding her way back to writing through her body.
